"ONLY - FORTY EIGHT FURLONGS TO GRETNA"

Which, by my reckoning, = about six miles! A good 8+ miles today means that I should reach Gretna, cross the border and cross the River Esk tomorrow - but we'll still save any celebrations for Sunday night. A nice day today - warm, some sun but mostly cloudy. Scenery nice to begin but gradually getting less exciting. Went to Carlisle tonight to see the RLPO. Great to meet up with old friends - but we couldn't afford to go to the concert! The Sands Centre charge ridiculous prices! Never mind, we'll go to hear them when we get near Liverpool. Great, good-value meal in the Turf Inn in Carlisle tonight.
